Reinforcement
for soils with poor load-bearing capacity
Texel Geo-9
is a reinforcement geocomposite composed of polypropylene
fibers. This needle-punched composite is created
by combining woven and nonwoven geotextiles.
Texel Geo-9 serves two functions.
- Reinforcement. This function is provided
by a woven geotextile with a high coefficient
of elasticity.
Like a stretched membrane, it moves slightly
with the soil in order to even out the tensile
forces
transmitted by the road and those received
by the soil. Its high coefficient of tension
enables it
to distribute loads over a greater surface
area, reducing ruts.
- Separation and filtration. Separation
and filtration of fine soil particles are provided
by a
nonwoven geotextile with a small filtration aperture. Texel
Geo-9 separates layers of materials so that
each conserves its mechanical properties at all times.
Its high transmissivity enables soil subjected
to surges to be more quickly consolidated
and stabilized. Its high drainage capacity increases its grip on
the ground by reducing these surges.
These
reinforcement, separation and filtration
properties are essential, as soils with poor
load-bearing capacity generally require
a separator to prevent
contamination between infrastructure soil
and the foundation. Geo-9’s small
filtration aperture represents an additional
advantage
in most cases.
Each side of the composite
is covered in geotextile, making installation
easy and
meaning Geo-9’s
properties are identical no matter what
direction it is installed in. A simple
seam made at
the factory or onsite replaces the 60-90
cm overlaps suggested
for wire mesh reinforcements. The woven
and nonwoven geotextiles are completely
incorporated
and covered,
eliminating any risk of peeling. This high
performance combination makes for a product
that stays intact.
Applications:
- Municipal roads
- Wood lots
- Forest access roads
- Bogs
- Parking lots
- Any civil engineering project
built on an organic or clay foundation.
